One of the major differences is that Skype is free and Blackboard Collaborate is not. Another large difference is that Blackboard Collaborate is designed for education in mind and may be used by professional organizations. Skype is designed to be user friendly for everyone from young to old. Skype is also available on devices such as Mobile phones. I found Skype to have many more language exchanges.
Both of them claim to cut costs on travel to meetings and offer group or collaborate meeting areas where sharing files, instant messaging, and face-to-face web conferencing are available. Both of them claim to provide a safe and secure network to use for video conferencing.
